Lake Vermilion, MINNESOTA
JUNE 12-20, 2009
Our first missions assignment to Minnesota was a success! The team worked for Pastor Mike and Adeline Potts who are trying to build a ministry on Birch Island on Lake Vermilion in Minnesota. Click on the photos below to see the men and boys at work
The team worked on four major projects during the week. The main house was scraped and painted. Chris Hawbaker led this project and those guys did an awesome job! The was a lot of old cans and junk that needed to be cleaned up and disposed of from were there from a previous owner. The boys under Peter Ogilvie worked hard and made things look even more beautiful. The small cabin that Mike built needed chinked and sealed. And the hardest job was clearing an 8 foot wide trail back into the woods that leads to the future site of the six sided log chapel that we hope to build there next year.

The photo to the right is a scale model. We are looking
for a team of men to build this chapel in Minnesota in 2010.
Would you like to be a part of next year's team? It will be helpful if
you like working with logs and have an adventurous appreciation for the
outdoors! This work will eventually provide a place of serenity for the
pastors who visit this island in the boundary waters of Minnesota. Contact
us for more information. But in the meantime, please
pray for these men and boys that will be leaving June 12-20
of this year to prepare the site for next year's construction! Thank you
for all of those who have supported these people financially.

Lake Vermilion, MINNESOTA
May 15-22, 2010
Pastor
Mike Potts served Copper Center Community Chapel in Alaska for almost 7 years before
setting off for Mongolia where he and his wife Adeline started a church.
Adeline is an Alaskan native from the town of Eagle. Today they have a goal of building a pastor's retreat and outdoors youth
ministry on Birch Island on Lake Vermilion in northern Minnesota.
Mike
& Adeline still have ties with the people of Copper Center Community Chapel
and the ministry in Alaska. Our goal is to continue working with them
and come alongside their ministry to help them develop it further.
Last year we sent a father/son team to clear land.

see photos from that team's work. This year our goal is to build a 6 sided log
chapel like the one we built with Pastor Mike at Strelna Lake Wilderness Bible
Camp in Alaska in 1999 (shown below). To the left is a scale model of the chapel.
We are sending a team of four skilled men who are veteran
LightShine workers. All of these men have a heart for wilderness
ministry, have experience in log construction and are followers of Jesus
Christ.
Jeremy Schmoel
(right) is active not only in his local church as the coordinator and a teacher
for the Adult Bible Electives on Sunday morning but he also owns his own
construction business. He enjoys working with his hands and loves
people.
He
and Jerry Polizzi
(left) led last year's disaster relief team to Eagle, Alaska in September
2009. CLICK HERE to see a
photo review of this team. Jerry has worked in Alaska four times with LightShine Ministries
and is a talented craftsman. Jerry's desire is to work hard for Jesus
Christ and
believes in the mission of LightShine.
Brian Shaffer
(right) has worked with LightShine in Alaska two
different times and has earned the nickname "Bunyan" because he is a strong
worker who loves the outdoors. Bunyan also loves Jesus with all his
heart and desires to see many people to be reconciled with their Creator.
Tom Denlinger
(below) has known Pas
tor
Mike for 14 years and designed and helped build the chapel at Strelna Lake.
As the director of LightShine Ministries, Tom wants to encourage others to use
their gifts for building the Kingdom of Jesus Christ instead of their own
fragile empires. In the end, serving people will be much more rewarding
than serving ourselves!

Would you help send these men to do this job?
Each man has to raise $875 to go and volunteer for a week building this outdoor chapel. This is not a vacation for them. They are doing this as unto the Lord and taking time off from work and being home with their families. You can send a tax deductible support check for any of the men listed above and it will be credited to their account. Please click on their individual names above to view their personal support letters which provides a form you can send in with your missionary support. Checks can be made payable to:
LightShine Ministries
P.O. Box 777 Mount Joy, PA 17552
