Mountain Home Fellowship

Friday, February 26 - Sunday, March 7, 2010

Mountain Home Fellowship (MHF) is the ministry of Wick and Candy Sunderland in Palmer, Alaska.  Wick and Candy are partners with LightShine Ministries and share a common goal of equipping and networking churches, Bible camps and other ministries all throughout Alaska.  CLICK HERE to read more about their ministry.

Our April 2009 team (see photos above) worked hard installing windows, insulating and hanging drywall in their all purpose room.   The goal of this February 2010 team is to finish off the room for whatever it needs by then.  Most likely we will be painting, doing trim work, laying flooring and decorating.  This room will be used for housing our future LightShine teams as they pass through Alaska on their way to their assignments.  If you always wanted to see Alaska during the winter months, this trip is for you!

This trip will coincide with the Fur Rondy which is held in Anchorage.  Click on the 2010 Fur Rondy logo to the right to read more about this major Alaskan event!

After working hard for a week, we will go to the Fur Rondy on the last day and watch the start of the Iditarod on Saturday, March 6 and catch a plane for Pennsylvania later that night.

To read more about the Iditarod, click on their photo below!

REGISTRATION FORM:  We are currently accepting registration forms for this team.  Maximum number of team members will be 6.  Please CLICK HERE to download a registration form.

The cost of this trip will be $700 and will cover your food and transportation from the time you leave PA until the time you arrive back in PA.  Many people choose to pay their own way but others choose to operate through their local church seeking missionary support.  We highly recommend the latter although we leave it completely up to you.  This is a missions trip.  Therefore we help all team members communicate with their local church members, family and friends in describing the work that lays ahead for you.  You will be working approximately 40 hours during your week in Alaska.  This should not be seen as a vacation either by you or by those sending you.  There is a job to be done.  The Bible teaches that all of us who are followers of Jesus have been given gifts and talents by Him to be used for teaching our world Who He is!  This trip is an opportunity to serve Mountain Home Fellowship.

When you register to be a part of this team, you will be given support letters upon your request to hand out to family and friends seeking their financial support. It will be our goal to establish a relationship between you and the people sending you as missionaries to Alaska. Later we will give you a list of all those who supported you so that you can thank them and give them your prayer requests for the trip.

What is the $700 used for?  Transportation (air and road travel) costs make up the majority of the costs. All food will be provided.  Your lodging will be your sleeping bag on a mattress or cot in a heated room.  Some of your support money helps operate LightShine Ministries which is sponsoring the trip (includes office expenses, salaries, utilities, etc.).

What are the deadlines for raising the money?

There are two deadlines for raising support.

Half of your support ($350) must be raised by December 31, 2009.  This allows us to have the money in place to purchase airline tickets and gives us time to buy them.

The deadline for raising the balance of your financial support will be January 31, 2010. It is very important that you take the cost of the trip and this deadline seriously. There are a lot of expenses in organizing a trip like this one and we need every participant to do their part.

Please begin to pray about your involvement with our team this September and talk to your spouse and employer about setting these dates aside.  It is highly recommended that you begin to raise support right now!  Every year people get worried as the summer progresses because they wish they would have started raising funds earlier.  Please plan ahead and make your commitment now.

Policies - Make sure you CLICK HERE to read our business policies for your trip.

Email - We communicate primarily by email.    We strongly recommend that you have an email address and check it regularly.  If not, you will miss out on a lot of information.

Please contact me soon if you are interested in becoming part of this year's team.  Help me by determining to meet all the deadlines given above.  It helps the trip go much smoother.  And don't forget to keep every aspect of this trip in prayer.  We have seen God do some great things in us and through us in past years.  Again, the email address for this trip is lightshinealaska@comcast.net.  I hope to talk to you soon!
