Globe Creek Camp
August 7-15, 2010
One
of the goals of
Globe Creek Camp
is to provide opportunities for campers to experience the majesty and glory of
God in His created world. The camp is located at mile 37 on the
Elliot
Highway which connects Fox with Manley Hot Springs where the Dalton Highway
continues on to Prudhoe Bay on the north slope of Alaska.
The
land is rugged wilderness and reflects the character of our Jesus Christ, our
Creator (Colossians 1:15-20). These photos show the land surrounding the
camp with the Elliot Highway in the photo to the left.
Mike Dynes, the executive director of the camp, has a vision of creating a backpacking trail that will take campers 25 miles out into this country and eventually looping the trail back to the camp. The task of this team assignment will be blazing this trail. We strongly suggest that men and boys on this trip are in good physical condition and willing to work hard. This is not a trip for boys who are just learning to work and lose interest quickly. We will be backpacking and carrying tools with us. Along the way we will make two campsites that will be at strategic locations to enhance the camping experience for future hikers. This trail will be a feature for the camp and will be used to stretch campers out of their comfort zone and teach them valuable life lessons with a strong biblical emphasis.
These photos above show previous campers using a shorter trail that leads up to a beautiful vista. When our team completes this new trail it will add another feature to Globe Creek Camp. We are excited about helping them accomplish this goal!
REGISTRATION FORM:
We are currently accepting registration forms for this team. Maximum
number of team members will be 10. Please
registration form.
The cost of
this trip will be
$1650
and
will cover your food and transportation from the time you leave PA until the
time you arrive back in PA.
Many people choose to pay their own way but others choose to operate through
their local church seeking missionary support. We highly recommend the
latter although we leave it completely up to you. This is a missions trip.
Therefore we help all team members communicate with their local church members,
family and friends in describing the work that lays ahead for you. You
will be working approximately 40 hours during your week in Alaska. This
should not be seen as a vacation either by you or by those sending you.
There is a job to be done. The Bible teaches that all of us who are
followers of Jesus have been given gifts and talents by Him to be used for
teaching our world Who He is! This trip is an opportunity to serve Globe
Creek Camp and help them build their camping program.
When you register to be a part
of this team, you will be given
support letters upon your request to hand out to family
and friends seeking their financial support. It will be our goal to establish a
relationship between you and the people sending you as missionaries to Alaska.
Later we will give you a list of all those who supported you so that you can
thank them and give them your prayer requests for the trip.
What
is the $1650 used for?
Transportation (air and road
travel) costs make up
the majority of the costs. All food will be
provided.
Your lodging will be your sleeping bag.
There will be nights when you will lay your
bag on a mattress but there will also be
nights when you will be sleeping on the
ground in tents.
Some of your support money helps operate LightShine
Ministries which is sponsoring the trip
(includes office expenses, salaries,
utilities, etc.).
What
are the deadlines for raising the money?
There
are two deadlines for raising support.
Half of your support ($825)
must be raised by May 31, 2010. This allows us
to have the money in place to purchase airline tickets and gives us time to buy
them.
The
deadline for raising the balance of your
financial support will be July 15th.
It is very important that you take the cost
of the trip and this deadline seriously.
There are a lot of expenses in organizing a
trip like this one and we need every
participant to do their part.
Please begin to pray about
your involvement with our team this
September and talk to your spouse and
employer about setting these dates aside.
It
is highly recommended that you begin to
raise support right now!
Every year
people get worried as the summer progresses
because they wish they would have started
raising funds earlier. Please plan
ahead and make your commitment now.

We communicate primarily by
email. We strongly recommend that you have an email
address and check it regularly. If not, you will miss out on a lot of
information.
Please contact me soon if you are interested
in becoming part of this year's team. Help me by determining to meet all
the deadlines given above. It helps the trip go much smoother. And
don't forget to keep every aspect of this trip in prayer. We have seen God
do some great things in us and through us in past years. Again, the email
address for this trip is
lightshinealaska@comcast.net. I hope to talk to you soon!
