July 24-30 - Strelna Lake Firebreak
Team
This team will be made up of some Amish and Mennonite friends led by Junior Zook. They will be driving to Alaska and plan to be gone for four weeks. when they arrive in Alaska the goal of their team will be cutting a firebreak around the camp at Strelna Lake. Firebreaks are essential for keeping forest fires from spreading into areas that contain buildings or dwellings. This team will work hard at not only cutting but also clearing a 30'-40' area around the camp and working directly with camp director, Tom Carew, in making the camp safe in the case of a forest fire anywhere near the camp. This assignment will require team members to be in excellent physical shape and ready to work hard for a week in the Alaskan wilderness. Visit www.strelnalake.com to see the website for the camp. August 10-20 - Globe Creek Camp -
Father/Son Trailblazing Team
The goal of this team is clearing a backpacking trail that was started 2 years ago by a former LightShine team. This is not hard work but does require men and boys to carry all their belongings on their backs and carry hand tools to clear brush and tie ribbons on trees to keep the trail well marked. More information is coming. This trail is part of the youth ministry that Globe Creek Camp offers their campers.
August or September - Copper Center Community Chapel
This team will be working primarily inside the new church building at Copper Center doing trim carpentry and painting. Exact dates and more information is coming soon.
