2006 Alaska Work Team

Thank you so much for praying for us this year!  We saw God work through us many times and are thankful for those of you who sent us and stood behind us with your prayer support.  Believe it or not, it is hard to travel almost 5,000 miles from home and leave your family at home.  But God teaches us when He gets us out of our comfort zone.  We recommend that you come with us next time.  It will be a great learning experience for you. We had to raise the kitchen cabin and put large rocks under it because it was sinking in the permafrost.  It was a hard job using a large log as a lever.

    Our bathroom and shower

Markus Machete Man and his favorite saying, "... shut up and pray!"

Jackie cutting down LOTS of weeds, prickly rosehips and small trees!

Tim and Jerry installed a ceiling in Cabin 2.

Jerry catching our supper ... a 21 inch rainbow trout!  A Strelna Lake record so far!  Anyone care to beat him?  Tim is biting his lip ...

Brenda and Candy made our meals!

... mmmmm ... fried rainbow trout!

Skinny measuring plastic for the cabin windows.

We cut down probably over 40 trees clearing an area for building another cabin next year.  We not only cut them down but cut off all the limbs and carried the logs back to camp for firewood.  Lots of hard work!  We slept well.

This is how we got in our supplies.  We had to canoe approximately 2 miles to camp.

Every year we bring out a camp maintenance team to clean up the camp, do repairs and construction projects and prepare it for winter.  The camp is used in the summer for children's Bible camp.  You can read more about the camp by clicking HERE.  Would you like to come with us next year?  Email us at lightshinealaska@earthlink.net
